How to apply SHENXING speed talisman tape
Four strips make one application. Anchor at zero stretch, lay the middle at about half tension, finish flat, and rub it warm — the adhesive is heat activated. One effort, then take it off.

A roll is five metres, pre-cut into twenty strips of 5 by 25 centimetres. Four strips make one application, which makes a roll five long days. This is how to spend one of them well.
Before you touch the roll
- Skin dry, clean, oil-free. No lotion and no sunscreen on the strip's path.
- Hair trimmed rather than shaved — freshly shaved skin lifts adhesive.
- Apply at least twenty minutes before you start, not at the line. The adhesive is heat activated and needs time on warm skin.
The four strips
One application is four strips: two down the calf, one across the ankle, one over the knee — or wherever your road hurts. Take them from the roll at the pre-cut divisions; each strip carries one complete charm, head to seal.
Round the corners
Snip the two corners off each end into a curve. Square corners catch on fabric and start a peel; rounded ends survive the distance.
Laying a strip
- Anchor. Peel about three centimetres of backing and lay the first end down with zero stretch. Press it flat. This anchor is what holds everything else.
- Lengthen the limb. Put the muscle into a stretched position — for the calf, foot flexed up; over the knee, knee bent. Tape laid on a shortened muscle will fight you later.
- Lay the middle at about half stretch. Peel the backing progressively and lay the body of the strip along the muscle at roughly 50 percent tension. Do not pull it tight. The charm should still read cleanly — if the cinnabar brushwork is distorted, you have overstretched it.
- Finish flat. Last three centimetres, zero stretch again.
- Warm it. Rub the whole strip briskly with your palm until it warms — ten to fifteen seconds. The adhesive will not hold until you do this. It is the step people skip and the reason tape lifts at kilometre forty.
Which way up
The charm reads top to bottom: opening marks at the head, seal at the foot. Lay it head-up — toward the hip on the leg, toward the knee on the calf. It is a written document. Hanging a document upside down is the one mistake worth avoiding.
One effort, then off
Plainly: it is for one effort. One race, one long run, one attempt at the thing you have been building toward. Take it off afterwards. It is not built to be worn for days or peeled off and stuck back on — and in the tradition it comes from, the charm is untied at the end of the journey, not carried into the next one.
Five applications to a roll is, by that logic, five journeys.
Taking it off
- Remove it in the shower, or on damp skin.
- Peel slowly along the direction of hair growth, rolling the tape back on itself flat against the skin rather than pulling it upward.
- Press the skin down ahead of the peel with your other hand.
Sense checks
- Patch-test on the inside of the forearm for a few hours if your skin is reactive. Rayon and hot-melt adhesive are ordinary materials, and it is latex free, but skin is skin.
- Do not apply over broken, irritated or infected skin, open blisters, or anything that hurts to touch.
- If it itches, burns or goes red under the strip, take it off.
- This is not a medical device and we make no medical claims for it. If something in your body needs attention, it needs a clinician, not a talisman.
